This study investigated the potential of a stem cellsecretome product to combat age-related decline in muscle mass, metabolism, andphysical function in aged mice. The secretome, a cocktail of factors secretedby stem cells, was delivered via intramuscular injections twice weekly for fourweeks. Compared to saline controls, secretome-treated mice exhibitedsignificant improvements in whole-body lean mass, muscle fiber size, physicalfunction (grip strength, rotarod performance), and energy expenditure. Additionally,the secretome treatment reduced fat mass and adipocyte size, increasedcapillary density within muscle tissue, and enhanced markers of muscle growth,lipolysis (fat breakdown), and insulin sensitivity. In vitro studies furtherconfirmed the secretome's ability to directly stimulate muscle cell growth andindirectly promote fat reduction through secretome-conditioned media. Thesefindings suggest that stem cell secretome therapy holds promise as a potentialstrategy to improve muscle health, metabolic function, and physical function inthe context of aging. However, further research is needed to determine thesafety and efficacy of this approach in humans.
